On the back of England’s extremely bland win over Norway, the Daily Mirror published a piece written by, I believe Matt Law, reporting that money alone does not matter to Robin van Persie and he will only sign a new contract at Arsenal if the club show ambition this summer.
Now, Robin is a world class player and our talisman as well as captain but what people must remember is that no one player is irreplaceable.
Let’s look at it logically, Robin is 29 soon, he has a bad injury record and is unlikely to have another season quite as great as this one. If he really wants to leave the club, I seriously don’t see the point in forcing him to see out the final year of his contract and then risk losing him on a free next summer.
If we get a good offer for him from a club abroad(!) and Robin is keen on the move, then we should let him go in my opinion. Let’s say we got £30m or thereabouts from the sale of our star man van Persie.
I personally think that spending that money on two, possibly three great players would improve our overall squad more than blowing all the money on someone like, while they are fantastic players, Falcao or Edinson Cavani.
|Cavani or Falcao… either one will be a fine replacement for RVP, if he leaves (Taken from Resultados Futbol)|
For example, I would much rather we bought Olivier Giroud, Shinji Kagawa and Junior Hoilett than only Falcao or Cavani. Although, all this could prove to be irrelevant if we show ambition by buying the right players, which I believe we have the money to do so.
If this happens then Robin will sign a new contract and we won’t even have to worry about this type of scenario, which I sincerely hope we don’t.
So Arsene, be decisive, do not dither, and spend some cash. If you do this, I really can’t find a reason for us not to get back to winning trophies again.
