Why Chelsea can help keep Manchester United in the title picture

The Premier League title race is far from open with Manchester City taking an 11-point advantage, clear of Manchester United in 2nd, but the race is far from over.

We are only just approaching Christmas and with many months of the season to go, things could all change.

 

United’s chances

United just need to keep winning, the target should be to win all the remaining games.

City are likely to lose a couple of games here and there and if anyone is going to catch them, they are going to have to keep to a winning run. 11-points is a big gap, but not an impossible one.

 

How Chelsea form could be crucial

Despite a few slips against smaller teams, most recently West Ham, Chelsea have generally been in good form and one loss from Manchester United would leave them level on points with the Blues.

I think United could use a hypothetical battle with Chelsea to keep second place as a real boost for any titles chances that come around.

In the last two matchdays, Chelsea have played before Manchester United which whilst many are focused on trying to lower the gap between the Manchester clubs, has resulted in me as a fan being very cautious to the thought of dropping points and dropping down the table.

In two of the next three loads of fixtures, Chelsea play before United and however nice it’d be for the Blues to drop points and give United a grip on second, it could work better in the long run to have Chelsea win and keep the Red Devils on their toes, so the heads don’t drop and the wins continue.

 

Season far from over

City have been playing well and are on a phenomenal run, but the season has never ended in December and never will. They look very hard to catch but stranger things have happened in football.

United are having a really good season too still with everything to play for with the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League still up for grabs.
