Top 5 former Bundesliga players in the Premier League

The lucrative TV deal has made the Premier League the richest league in the world which means that clubs have a strong financial power.

This is the main reason why players move to England for a huge amount of money. One of the main transfer imports is from Germany. The Bundesliga is the home of exciting young players who happen to choose the English league as their destination to make the next step in their career.

Most often there is a general belief that players who join the Premier league tend to struggle because of the increased demands of the league. However, that hasn’t been the case when we look at the players who have joined English teams from abroad in recent seasons.

Here we take a look at 5 best players who have moved from the Bundesliga and are making a difference in the most scrutinized league in the world.

The list contains players who have joined in the few years so players like Vincent Kompany, who moved from Hamburg to Man City a decade ago, is ruled out. It also doesn’t include players who came in this season like Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac.

5) Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The Armenian playmaker made the move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United in the summer of 2016.

Life at Old Trafford didn’t start well for the Bundesliga player of the year as he was overlooked by Jose Mourinho for the first few months. But Mkhitaryan eventually managed to break into the 1st team and put on some memorable performances like his goals against Tottenham and Sunderland.

His first season ended with 3 trophies and this season he has been providing assists for a resurgent Man United side looking to bring home the league title. He has been criticized for lack of consistency during the course of last year but he has looked to put that away so far this season as he has a goal and 5 assists in 7 league games.

4) Emre Can

The 23 years old former Leverkusen man was just a promising young talent in the Bundesliga when he has made the big move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool. Can has improved tremendously since his arrival especially under the guidance of Klopp.

He now has become an integral part of the Reds defense and is being sought after by clubs like Juventus. In addition to that he has become a regular in the German national team.

3) Leroy Sane

Part of the revolution at Manchester City Leroy Sane joined Pep’s team for a hefty fee from Schalke.

Sane gained huge media attention during his breakout Bundesliga season in 2014/15 when he scored a beauty against Real Madrid during his teams unexpected 4-3 win over the record Champions League winners,

Sane had a brilliant second half of the season last season and has made his opportunities count this season with countless great performances whenever he was given the chance. What makes him an even more enthralling player is the fact that he will only get better under the guidance of the Spanish manager.

2) Roberto Firmino

Firmino’s time at Liverpool started poorly under Brendan Rodgers who usually deployed him out of position but with a managerial change came a change in fortune for the Brazilain. He has been the main man up front since the German managers arrival at Anfield.

Firmino is player who is energetic and versatile making him the ideal front man for Klopp’s counter pressing football.

1) Kevin De Bruyne

The man who was labelled a Chelsea reject when he joined Man City from Wolfsburg has been anything but a flop.

He’s one of the best players in the Premier League right now and he has the creative spark that makes his team even better than they already are.

The man who guided Wolfsburg to their first German Cup title in 2015 is looking to lead the citizens to their first league title since 2014. He is a key component in Guardiola’s quest to make Man City a power house in Europe.

The Belgian has the most assists in Europe’s top 5 leagues in 2017 (12).
