REPORT: Liverpool and Arsenal lock horns for £40m goalkeeper

Liverpool and Arsenal are set to lock horns for Jack Butland, understands the Sun on Sunday.

Butland’s fee is believed to be around £40 million with both sides prepared to part with the required amount to make him their no.1.

The 35-year-old Petr Cech has made a litter of mistakes this season whereas Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is as messy as their defence.

Simon Mignolet looks set to leave and Loris Karius remains unconvincing.

The Verdict

It is no secret that both teams need new goalkeepers and Butland is among the best in the league. He would represent a sage option, with his obvious qualities complementing with a knowledge of the league.

The 24-year-old has ambitions of making England’s no.1 jersey his own and, arguably, he can only do that a top-tier club.

Ultimately, Butland’s destination may depend on his own personal preference as both sides appear to be comfortable with his valuation and determined to make him their first choice.
