Euro 2012: Match Report- Spain vs France

Spain 2-0 France: (Alonso 19′, 90 pen’)

Line Ups

Champ of the Match: Xabi Alonso

Taken from Twitter

Delightful double for Alonso in his 100th cap for Spain. Scored early on just under 20 minutes. A late arrival into the box, picked out by Jordi Alba, and nodded home by Alonso. A great solid performance, passing skills at its finest, influenced Spain’s performance dramatically.

As for his second, Pedro glided into the box, only to be pulled down, as Spain were awarded a penalty. Alonso stepped up coolly, and sent the keeper the wrong way. Excellent tonight.

Chump of the Match: Gael Clichy

Taken from Twitter

Immensely bad performance by Clichy, who was run ragged by Silva, Iniesta and Arbeloa. Always out of position, and was greatly out of position for the first goal. Alonso appeared at the back-post, as Clichy disappeared, and headed home easily.

Clichy was constantly at fault, allowing many players to bypass him down the right wing!

Tweets of the Night

@hahostolze – Koscielny has been great so far. Most passionate and dedicated player out there.

@lotamaster – Malouda shouldn’t have even come to the tournament.

@CainJBennett – Spain always have an outlet out on the right. Clichy to blame.

What’s next for Spain

Barely got out of 3rd gear tonight, as Spain walked over France. The way I see it, they’ll also do that against Portugal. I predict a Spain vs Germany final, but I’ll judge again on that front after I’ve watched England vs Italy.
