Scout Report- Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV Eindhoven)

Over the next few weeks, O-Posts will be hosting scout reports by up and coming writer Iain Fordyce. I hope you’ll enjoy these reports on some of the best and brightest talents around.

Taken from Give Me Football

Name – Georginio Wijnaldum
Age – 21
Club – PSV
Position – Attacking Midfielder

After a disappointing European Championship this summer for Holland and Van Marwijk with the manager leaving his post as the national side manager, so changes will occur in the near future with changes expected to be made in the squad and of course the management.

There are two players who I expect to break into the starting 11 in the near future, one being PSV star midfielder Kevin Strootman and the other Georginio Wijnaldum which this Scout Report focuses on.

Last season was the 21 year old’s first season at PSV after signing from Feyenoord. The attacking midfield who can play on the wing to has had a great first season at PSV and is set for another next season and possibly breaking into the Holland squad. Wijnaldum did break into the Holland squad once and only featured for four minutes against San Marino and even scored in an 11-0 victory.

PSV have been known in the past for bringing through great talent and with Willems, Strootman and Wijnaldum in their ranks they can certainly learn a lot in the Eredivisie and also on the international stage.

I watched PSV quite a bit in last season’s Europa League and will continue to watch them next season with Wijnaldum being a bit feature last season with 3 goals in 10 games in the Europa League. A lot has been said about players not pulling their weight for the team well Wijnaldum is a great team player unlike Robben who despite being a great footballer is very selfish.

As an attacking midfielder Wijnaldum has got the lot. As an attacking midfielder, good movement is so important to your game and he offers that on and off the ball.  Playing in the gap between the oppositions defence and midfield is a key role and for a 21 year old he has really shown he is a player for the future, the near future.

Despite having great movement he is a player that is confident to run at players with the ball and isn’t scared of a challenge. Playing in the attacking midfield role you are expected to help out your striker at time and Wijnaldum has made some very important centre forward runs which have resulted in goals.

This player has a big future for his club and Holland.
