It was another night of win for Celtic last night as they came out top in the game against Patrick Thistle. It was a game that was almost even in terms of match chances created. The Hoops obviously had a better chance of nicking the encounter before the start of the game but the match happened to be a game tougher than what Celtic had expected. Apart from the intensity of the game, there was even more to report in the match.
It was the actions of centre referee, John Beaton that got many talking. The referee awarded two penalties in the match, one for each side which seems a bit fair as things happen to be. It was the home side that struck first from the spot in the first half though Conor Sammon. So the Jags took a first half lead which happens to be a surprise.
So going into the second half Celtic had their chance too from the spot as Scot Sinclair beautifully converted the chance in the 56th minute. It only took 14 more minutes for Griffiths to add a second in the 70th minute which was all enough to seal the match.
It was now more about the referee that will be the talking point of the match. It was more than the penalties awarded. He added to the entertainment the fans who came to the stadium to watch the match enjoyed. He had his moment when he flicked the ball and his tricks caught everybody’s attention in the stands.
As the ball was going towards him, he showed his magical touch with the way he controlled the ball. His controlling skills could be compared to that of the best of footballers. Maybe one day he might reminisce on if he could have considered playing football ahead of refereeing.
