Arsenal in pole position to land top Premier League defender

Arsenal are in pole position to sign in demand West Brom defender Jonny Evans, reports the Daily Telegraph.

While the Gunners are continuing their chase for Borussia Dortmund star Pierre Aubameyang, they are also seeking to secure the services of the Northern Irish international.

West Brom, according the report, are looking to do a deal as soon as possible, with the purported £20 million windfall freeing up more funds for Alan Pardew.

The Verdict

This could be a very, very good January transfer window for Arsenal.

Yes, they lost the supremely talented Alexis Sanchez. But they’ve offloaded a player sowing discord in the dressing room, brought in the technically gifted Henrikh Mkhitaryan and look set to land Aubameyang.

Three problems will have been address in 30 days: defensive fragility, the Sanchez miasma and the need to add greater firepower, with Alexandre Lacazette inconsistent.
