Why Arsenal should not move for Benzema

Arsenal has been left red faced after submitted a laughable bid for Karim Benzema, according to The Sun.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is purported to have laughed off Arsenal’s bid of £40 million.

Despite Benzema firing blanks this season, Perez still values the striker highly – the Frenchman has been at Madrid for eight years, one of the longest servants under the second Perez regime.

The Verdict

Is anyone reminded of something? That’s right – when Wenger bid £40 million and £1 for Luis Suarez, causing Liverpool’s owner to tweet: “what are they smoking over there at the Emirates?”

Admittedly, this is not as embarrassing, because in fairness, Arsenal’s bid is sufficient. Benzema is far from the player he once was and Perez would be hard pressed to find anyone willing to offer more than the aforementioned sum.

A swap deal with Alexis Sanchez has been mooted but this would not be a fair deal. If Perez wants more for him, Wenger is better off taking his money elsewhere.
