“Downgrade in football” – why Arsenal fans are elated over 27 year old’s mooted departure

Has Don Raul done it again?

Very likely so, according to numerous reports from a slew of reputable outlets such as the Daily Mirror, Egypt international Mohamed Elneny’s Arsenal sojourn is coming to an impending end.

The maligned midfielder has reportedly received interest from clubs in France and Turkey, more pointedly Bordeaux and Fenerbahce. Elneny arrived at Arsenal with little fanfare from Swiss giants in January 2016. Since then, he’s accumulated 71 appearances in just over four seasons, 23 as a used substitute.

Elneny has long been chastised by Arsenal fans as a result of his average, largely forgettable performances in the red and white jersey, providing little justification for Wenger’s investment in his services. He received renewed and heightened levels of aspersion after his calamitous showing against a Crystal Palace side fighting for survival at the Emirates last season.

Many Arsenal fans want to see the back of him, which is supported by the batch of celebratory and buoyant tweets by fans delighted by the recent reports of his looming departure.
