Arsenal skipper Granit Xhaka has been the recipient of a wave of criticism and endless disparagement, elicited by his underwhelming and woeful performances at the center of Arsenal’s midfield.
It didn’t get any better for him on Sunday. Arsenal crumbling, outclassed by a more spirited Aston Villa side – Xhaka was nowhere to be found. His gingerly pace and movement was a burden yet again for an Arsenal midfield in urgent need of dynamism and energy.
Joe Willock’s introduction helped inject those elements into a lackluster Arsenal midfield, propelling them to an ostensibly-improbable and potentially morale-boosting victory over Aston Villa.
Willock and his timely intervention on Sunday has Arsenal fans gushing, imploring Unai Emery to grant the 20 year old prospect an automatic spot in his starting line-up.
Emery needs to cut ties with the failures and misfits and give younger players the chance. Joe Willock and Torreira brought energy, mobility and urgency – exactly what that midfield needs. #afc— 姫 (@SweGoose) September 23, 2019
Joe Willock and Lucas Torreira need to be starting, it’s not fucking difficult.— Toby (@WestBankToby) September 23, 2019
