Mesut Ozil reportedly met with Fenerbahce over a possible transfer to the club during a 17-hour trip to Istanbul in his recent visit to Turkey, according to Hurriyet.
Ozil, 28, is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal with Arsenal hence leaving room for speculations about a potential Arsenal exit.
Seeing as Ozil is a lifelong Fenerbahce supporter it would be relatively easy for the Turkish outfit to sign the Germany international, but it’s fair to say it won’t be a smart move for Ozil.
The Arsenal star who is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in the modern game has attracted interest from a host of clubs with none of them making concrete offers.
But with Ozil’s future in Arsenal still uncertain at this stage it would be impossible to rule out a move to Fenerbahce, a club by his admission he’d like to play for at some point in his career.
Instrumental for the Gunners
The Gunners are currently 2nd on the Premier League standings and look to be keen on clinching the title this term.
Ozil has been instrumental in Arsenal’s campaign thus far having bagged three goals in the League after seven games.
The highlight of the Germany international’s season though came in Arsenal’s Champions League tie against Ludogorets, a game in which Ozil utterly dominated as he bagged a hat-trick and registered an assist.
Wenger not keen on selling
It remains to be seen if the contract rebel will make the switch to Fenerbahce – but Arsene Wenger will surely be keen on keeping him at the Emirates for years to come.
