Premier League: The League’s Top Five Unsung Heroes have compiled a top 5 list of Premier League players who haven’t received the plaudits that they should have due to their contribution to the 2015/2016 football season.

Scott Dann – Crystal Palace

Scott Dann’s career trajectory may not make for the most inspiring reading, but the 28 year old has really found a home at Selhurst Park and one that suits him down to the ground.

The Eagles defender has proven himself to be the leader in Alan Pardew’s defence over the last twelve months and his strength in the air has proved pivotal in set pieces at both ends of the pitch.

Without the former Blackburn man’s presence, you have to wonder how Palace would cope defensively.

Claudio Yacob – West Bromwich Albion

Claudio Yacob has been a hero at the Hawthorns for some time now, but outside of the Black Country, the Argentinian midfielder rarely gets the praise he deserves.

Sitting deeper behind the likes of Darren Fletcher and Craig Gardner, Yacob provides a steely strength to the middle of the park for the Baggies and his intelligent defensive midfield play has unsurprisingly proven to be key to Tony Pulis’ set-up at WBA.

Steven Davis – Southampton

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis may not get the same attention as players like Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane at St Mary’s, but he sure deserves it in our opinion.

The 31 year old is perhaps enjoying the best spell of his career at the moment, consistently churning out top class performances for Ronald Koeman’s side, both driving forward from deeper positions and creating chances for the likes of Graziano Pelle and Shane Long.

He’ll be Northern Ireland’s captain and key man at this summer’s European Championships in France.

Heurelho Gomes – Watford

After the fairly horrendous spell that Heurelho Gomes spent at Tottenham Hotspur a few years ago, many pundits and fans thought the Brazilian goalkeeper had blown his chance to be a Premier League star.

However after leading Watford back to the top tier last season, Gomes has continued his fine form and put in some top class performances that have helped provide a solid defensive base for the attacking talents of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney.

Marc Albrighton – Leicester City

Given the season that Leicester City are enjoying in the Premier League, we would be remiss not to include one of their over-performing heroes in this article.

The likes of Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy have been receiving all the plaudits, but former Aston Villa winger Marc Albrighton has been of vital importance too.

His work-rate and consistency have proven pivotal and he’s created more chances than any other player at the King Power Stadium this term.
