AFC Bournemouth have formally announced the signing of 22-year old left-back Brad Smith from Liverpool.

Smith, whose transfer fee is at a speculated £4.5 million, becomes the second Liverpool player to join Eddie Howe’s side after Jordan Ibe- now the club’s most expensive signing for £15 million.

Until his move to the Vitality Stadium had materialized, Brad Smith had been with the Reds for their pre-season tour of the United States.

The new deal will see him ply his trade with the Cherries until 2020.

Early life

Born Bradley Shaun Smith on 9 April 1994 in Penrith, Australia, he is a graduate of the Liverpool Reserve team having joined in 2008.

Although he made his senior debut in 2013 under Brendan Rodgers, he never quite cemented his place in the first team despite serving a loan spell with Swindon Town in 2014.

His only goal for Liverpool was during the club’s 2-2 draw with Exeter in the FA Cup’s third-round last season.

Good move?

Under Jurgen Klopp, the Australian managed only four Premier League appearances.

For a 22-year old in the modern game, that is already a good enough reason to opt for greener pastures elsewhere.

Brad Smith becomes Bournemouth’s sixth signing of the summer, a priceless opportunity to solidify his place in the starting XI as the gaffer is clearly tightening the loose nuts and bolts in the squad.
