According to recent reports, Liverpool are in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign their Brazilian ace Alex Teixeira. Could the attacking-midfielder be exactly what the Reds are looking for this January?

According to numerous news outlets, the Merseysiders have made an official approach to the Ukrainian club for their star man Teixeira. Reports suggest that Liverpool have submitted a bid in the region of £25 million for the former Brazil U20 international’s services.

The lowdown

So, who is Alex Teixeira and what can he bring to Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool faithful? The 26-year-old started his career with Vasco de Gama, before being snapped up by Shakthar in 2010. He’s gone onto play over 150 games for the nine-times Ukrainian Premier League champions, helping his team to astonishing five league titles in the process.

Liverpool, who already have a strong Brazilian connection with the likes of Lucas Leiva, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino already at the club, will be getting a more than handy player if the deal does indeed go through.

During his time at the Donbass Arena, Teixeira netted 67 league goals and become a real fans favourite in Donetsk.

In need of a boost

After taking just one point from their last three Premier League games, Liverpool are crying out for a new face to come in and lift the spirits at Anfield. Klopp has already brought in a couple of new players, but a big-money deal for Alex Teixeira would certainly top the lot.

Premier League rivals Chelsea are also said to be keen on the attacker, however, the latest reports suggest that the Reds are in pole position to land his signature.

The Liverpool boss refused to get drawn into the Teixeira rumours in this morning’s press conference, but it seems pretty obvious that the Reds are ready to pay the asking price to get their man.

A step in the right direction

One thing’s for sure, if Liverpool do complete the move for Alex Texeira, it would no doubt be a huge step in the right direction for the Merseyside club.
