Does Marco van Ginkel still have a future at Chelsea?

Marco van Ginkel captained his PSV side to their first league title since 2016.

Definitely, we can say that he’s been Dutch League Lampard because he scored 14 goals and he also provided 4 assists. He’s 25 now and certainly deserves a chance to do it at Chelsea.

Van Ginkel started his career at Vitesse Arnhem, where he made his way through various youth levels.

He was doing very well at the first club also and Jose Mourinho saw something in him so he brought him to the Stamford Bridge. But, Ginkel’s first season at Chelsea was plagued by a serious injury. He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out of play for around seven months.

After that injury, he didn’t find his way back to Chelsea’s first team so he started his loan spells.

At AC Milan he scored only one goal in 17 games. Then, he moved to Stoke City where he also played 17 games. After that, he came back to his country but this time at PSV Eindhoven.

Since 2016, he scored 31 goals in 62 appearances for PSV.

Doing it in the Dutch league is one thing but doing it in the Premiership is another.

Despite that, he should be given the opportunity next season. Chelsea clearly had depth issues in midfield and he could provide more to a two-man midfield than Fabregas.

The goalscoring midfielder and Dutch international, could definitely be a useful member of their squad and even challenge for first team.

Given that Chelsea won’t probably be an attractive move for big names in the next couple of windows, it’s time these lads were given their chance.

No reason he can’t be given at least a pre-season to prove himself to the new manager. He could force his way into the setup similarly to Victor Moses as Chelsea’s midfield needs some freshening up.
