According to reports, Everton have rejected a bid from Newcastle for James McCarthy.

The bid for the 26 year old Republic of Ireland international was reportedly worth £16 million.

As reported by the Daily Star:

“Everton have reportedly rejected a £16m bid from Newcastle for midfielder James McCarthy.

The Daily Mail claim Rafa Benitez is keen to add quality to his side before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday evening.

But Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has told Newcastle the Republic of Ireland midfielder is not for sale.

McCarthy joined Everton for £13m from Wigan back in 2013 but is no longer first-choice at Goodison Park.”
