Liverpool are looking to shore up their porous defence with a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
The Reds’ leaking backline has constantly undermined Jurgen Klopp’s attack, and it seems like the Liverpool gaffer has had enough.
Reports from Bild, via the Metro, suggest that Klopp has turned his attention from Virgil van Dijk to the 18-year-old French centre back.
It is implied that Klopp will table a bid as early as January, despite Upamecano only joining the German outfit last January on a four-year-deal.
Whilst it will be a relief to hear that Liverpool are interesting in signing a defender, this deal does look like it would be one for the future, rather than introducing the centre-back straight into this side.
Yet Liverpool need defenders who can seamlessly fit in, steady the ship and ensure solidity: an 18-year-old, who is untested in the Premier League, might not be up to the task.
Liverpool are better off looking for immediate solutions; once their defence is a little more organised, than they should be looking long-term.
