UK’s Daily Mirror reports that Germany international Emre Can is getting closer and closer to signing a new contract with Liverpool.

The news has also been confirmed by the player himself.

As stated by the Mirror:

“Emre Can is closing in on a new contract at Anfield, the German midfielder has confirmed.

The 22-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season but Jurgen Klopp is keen to retain his services.

“Yes, the club have spoken to my agent,” Can said, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. “The talks are going very good.

“I have one-and-a-half years left. I am still under contract and it is my agent’s work (to sort it out). I am very happy here at Liverpool.”

Welcome news

The ex-Bayer Leverkusen prospect’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season, so this update should be welcome news to Liverpool supporters.

Can is a player who has proven able to play in a variety of positions, either in midfield or attack, and his energetic and consistent displays have proven key for Klopp and for the Reds’ title aspirations.

And at just 22, expect more from Can for years to come.
