Liverpool and Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, with the full-back set to sign a new contract.
According to Talk Sport, the defender will brush off interest from the Premier League and commit to Italian giants Napoli.
The full-back will sign a new deal expected to increase his current salary from £780,00 to £2,000,000.
Liverpool will be the more disappointed of the two interested parties, with their need to sign more defenders to facilitate more pressing every week.
Chelsea would’ve liked to have brought in Ghoulam to complement their wing-back system as his attacking endeavour and defensive solidity made him a perfect fit for Antonio Conte’s side.
Both teams will be looking to reinforce in the January transfer window, but one feels Liverpool’s recruitment will be key if they are to sustain their Champions League place.
For Chelsea, the impetus will be on defenders, like Liverpool, but the urge is less pressing.
