Manchester City and Barcelona are set to lock horns for the signing of Bayern Munich starlet Joshua Kimmich.
SportsWitness, who translate the story for SportsBild, report that both clubs are willing to bid 50 million euros for the youngster, amid reports he is unsettled at the German club.
Kimmich rose to prominence under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, when the current City boss was in charge of Munich, and there exists a connection between coach and player that could be crucial in convincing him to join the Citizens.
Kimmich is a versatile player, equipped with the necessary footballing intelligence that allows him to fit into most defensive/midfield positions. It is this sharpness and acute awareness that led to Guardiola’s obvious liking of the 22-year-old.
Naturally, Barcelona’s reputation for developing neat, tidy and intelligent footballers has also thrust them into the rumours mill.
It would not be too much of a surprise if Kimmich were to leave Munich for either of these sides, but the allure of the Nou Camp might be quashed by the attraction of working with former boss Guardiola.
