€18 million flop set for Manchester United departure in January

Manchester United’s left-back Matteo Darmian could be on his way out of the club in be January transfer window, with Serie A giants Napoli lining up a move for the Italian defender.

Juventus - who are currently leading Serie A with 41 points from 17 games, 1 behind fierce rivals and runaway leaders Manchester City - have made an inquiry about the availability of the Italian defender and according to report from The Mirror, AS Roma could also join in race to sign the right-back.

The €18 million rated has made 11 appearances for the Red Devils this season and has been frequently used by Jose Mourinho in the Premier League, registering only four appearances this season.

Darmian has fallen down the pecking order behind Ashley Young in Mourinho’s left-back while the Portuguese tactician has promised more game time for Luke Shaw earlier this month.

The club have also been linked with signing another left-back when the transfer window re-opens in January with Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose and Juve’s Alex Sandro on their radar.

Darmian, who has 36 international caps for Italy, joined Man United in 2015 while Louis can Gaal was still in charge in a £14.4m transfer from Torino.

He has made 79 appearances for the club since then, the latest of which was on Wednesday night in the Red Devils’ shocking 2-1 defeat to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup.

The Old Trafford club are currently second in the Premier League with 41 points from 18 games, 11 behind fierce rivals and runaway leaders Manchester City.
