Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to wield the axe on deadwoods and underperforming players at Old Trafford this summer in other to free up funds with the Portuguese tactician set for a squad overhaul having identified four key areas to the Manchester United board that he would like to reinforce this summer.
Despite sitting second on the log in the League, his failure to push neighbors Manchester City for the title despite a good start to the season and coupled with the Red Devils’ shocking 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the Champions League Round of 16 has heaped more pressure on the Portuguese this term, who is probably set to face a make or break quagmire at Old Trafford next season should he fail to land a major trophy next term.
However, knowing fully well next season might be his last chance to convince the Old Trafford hierarchy he is the best manager to take Manchester United back to his glory days, his four ideal targets this summer include Danny Rose, Raphael Varane, Fred and Willian Borges Da Silva.
At left-back, Jose Mourinho has identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose as the player to ease his left-back problem having employed versatile winger Ashley Young in a makeshift role all season despite having two natural left-backs in Daley Blind and Luke Shaw.
Meanwhile, in the heart of defence, Raphael Varane is believed to be at top of the Special One’s wishlist having identified him as the perfect partner to Eric Bailly as the trio of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have shown they can’t be relied upon after one inconsistent performance after the other.
Although, it is left to be seen if Madrid would be ready to part with one of their most prized assets in the summer.
In the middle of the park, the former Real Madrid manager has earmarked Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred as the man to complete his jigsaw in midfield to help ease the pressure on Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
Finally, on the right-hand side of the wing, the Portuguese has identified Chelsea attacker Willian as the player to offer more balance to the Red Devils in attack with Juan Mata carrying most of the load on the right-side of the attack this season.
