Manchester United vs Fulham: Match Preview

Manchester United play their first home game of the season at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon against a Fulham side who started the season brightly last week.

United started the season poorly after losing at Everton on Monday night after a superb display from Marouane Fellaini. On the other hand, Fulham started their campaign superbly well after demolishing a Norwich side 5-0 at Craven Cottage mainly thanks to debutant Mladen Petric who was on form.

United were in good nick against Fulham last season, beating them in the two meetings they faced each other. The Reds thrashed Fulham 5-0 at Craven Cottage before winning 1-0 at Old Trafford, although Fulham would feel harsh done by after not being awarded a penalty of their own.

Alexander Buttner joined Man Utd this week and the Dutch left back is likely to go straight into the squad and possibly, the first team line up on Saturday. Sir Alex Ferguson has teased the prospect of Patrice Evra joining Nemanja Vidic in the centre of defence, giving Buttner his home debut. Robin van Persie is likely to be given his full debut as well as Shinji Kagawa, but Jonny Evans narrowly misses out. Rio Ferdinand and Phil Jones are back in training but the game comes too soon for them. Chris Smalling also misses out.

Clint Dempsey is again missing for Fulham after refusing to play in a bid to try and force a move to Liverpool. Philippe Senderos is still injured so Aaron Hughes is likely to continue playing at centre back alongside Brede Hangeland. Youngster Kerim Frei also misses out. Zdenek Grygera is fit.

“It’s never easy going to one of the biggest clubs in the world and trying to win, but we will take heart from the way we played [at Old Trafford] back in March.” Aaron Hughes, Fulham defender.

United will have to be wary of new signing Mladen Petric who joined Fulham on a free transfer this summer. The Croatian was in lively form on his debut, scoring two goals, getting an assist and picking up the man of the match award along the way.

Did you know: This is the first time since Saturday the 11th of February that Manchester United are playing a league game on a Saturday.

Predicted line ups:

Man Utd; De Gea, Rafael, Vidic, Evra, Buttner, Carrick, Kagawa, Valencia, Nani, Rooney, van Persie.

Fulham; Schwarzer, Riether, Hangeland, Hughes, Riise, Diarra, Dembele, Ruiz, Duff, Rodallega, Petric.

Thanks for reading and take care.
