Marouane Fellaini has proved his worth for Manchester United this season. The Belgian has won over his critics and has received praise courtesy of his recent displays for the Red Devils.
Football managers across the world aspire to have a team of superstars, but the one piece that completes the jigsaw is a utilitarian player who can be asked to do a variety of jobs and he would excel at most, Fellaini is that player at Manchester United.
The Belgian had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, but has moved on this season, scoring four goals already in as many appearances. The goals have been a welcome addition, but it is the overall ability of the Belgian that has gone up a couple of notches.
The 29-year-old has been defensively astute, looked more comfortable on the ball and has helped United keep a fantastic team shape.
With Paul Pogba out for a ‘lengthy spell’, Fellaini will line-up alongside Nemanja Matic in midfield and that will not only give Manchester United more defensive stealth but also give more freedom to the attacking contingent, that has looked menacing so far.
Manchester United have gotten off to a tremendous start and have their sights set on Premier League glory, but for good teams to become champions, they not only need to win the big games, but also win on days where not a lot would go in their favour, win ugly – Fellaini has emerged as a weapon that could help United on such days.
The former Everton man has gone up the midfield pecking order, putting names like Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick behind him and he looks set to keep his place for a while.
The word at Old Trafford on the Belgian has moved from a potential move away to a big raise in his contract renewal – how times change!
