Liverpool are set launch a bid for Arsenal Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from under the noses of Chelsea, understands Mirror Sport.

Chelsea have been linked with the England international all summer, but are yet to make an actual bid – and although Antonio Conte, according to several reports, remains keen, he could be about to lose one of his targets.

Chamberlain rejected a new contract offer of around £180,000 a week, and Arsenal are now willing to listen to offers of around £35 million.

Chamberlain has purportedly told Arsene Wenger that a move away from the Emirates would be best for his career and his development.

The Verdict

Chamberlain has conducted himself well throughout this transfer tug-of-war, but for Wenger to hear that a player wants away because he feels his ambitions are not met, or are not going to be met, by the club will come as a blow – he’s right, though, a move away would be best for his career.

Chamberlain is a very intelligent footballer, versatile and blessed with burst of speed that complements his physicality.

He would fit in well anywhere, and a move to either Liverpool or Chelsea – sides who have more chance of silverware success – would be beneficial for his career.
