Diogo Dalot: Why Man United fans must trust Mourinho on this one

Diogo Dalot, I’d never heard of him, you’d probably never heard of him. But this 19-year-old has suddenly become the talk of Manchester.

The young Portuguese full-back has long been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs and Manchester United appear to have been the first to act on their interest. Reports suggest United are ready to pay his 20m euro release clause and bring him to Old Trafford.

Dalot is out of contract at FC Porto next season, but there is an option of a further 2 years and with that the 20m buyout clause rises soon and so United are reportedly willing to up the transfer fee a little to get a deal done before that clause comes into play.

Whilst he’s a relative unknown, being Portuguese, I have no doubt that Jose Mourinho has been watching him since day one and will know everything about him, including what chocolate he likes, okay that might be a little too far-fetched on my part.

Jose has made it very clear he keeps an eye on the Portuguese game as a whole and he’s always willing to talk about Portugal’s International stars like Joao Mario for example, as some recent quotes proved.

Mourinho is yet to bring a Portuguese player to Manchester, despite being linked with many, he did sign Victor Lindelof from the Primeira Liga, but of course he’s Swedish.

I’m sure all United fans hope that Mourinho’s first influx into his national market is a successful one.

I’m not certain that Dalot will jump straight in as first choice right-back, Jose will probably bide his time with the youngster but I’m of the opinion United need something fresh at right-back and he could, hopefully, be the answer.
