Marcus Rashford, born and raised in Manchester, became a Manchester United player from the age of seven. At the age of just 18 he made his first team appearance for United in a Europa League round of 32 against Midtjylland.
He scored two goals that night in a 5-1, his first made him Manchester United’s youngest ever scorer in European competition. This was the start of a new chapter in his life. Only 3 days later, he marked his first-team debut against Arsenal, again scoring 2 goals and an assist in a 3-2 victory. This was when Rashford became huge.
He was only a boy at the time, but the skill he shown on that pitch, he looked like he has been in the premier league for years. Shortly after he scored the only goals in the Manchester derby, his team’s first away league win over City since 2012.
What is astonishing is that he has scored in his first Premier League, Manchester derby, League Cup, international match and Champions League match. He became the youngest English player to score in his first senior international match.
He made 21 appearances, scoring 9 goals, not bad for his first season and only debuting in February of that year. The next season he scored 11 with 59 appearances. And now this season he already has 6 goals, with 15 appearances.
Not all about the goals
Rashford is not just a great goal scorer. He created assists for many of his teammates, he’s so fast with the ball, excellent for drilling and an all-round player.
When he is on the pitch, United’s attacking is so much more dangerous, cutting down slow play as much as possible. He makes such an impact when he comes on from the bench, even just for the last dying minutes of a game.
Defenders are still to play against him, knowing they could be outclassed by a youngster.
Can he score against Liverpool?
United travel to Anfield on Saturday, a game that never fails to impress.
Romelu Lukaku will surely be starting, with Rashford likely to come on as a substitute due to Antony Martial in tremendous form.
Can he snatch a late winner for United? It will be a tight match according to the bookies, both teams sharing the same odds to win. The odds can be found on Wincomparator.
What is the future looking like for Rashford?
There is no surprise that Marcus Rashford was being eyed up by rival clubs. Real Madrid had taken a very keen interest in the summer as a Kylian Mbappe alternative.
Unsurprisingly it fell through and it will always be like that. If Rashford is kept being a chance to shine he will be loyal.
Can Rashford become as good as Ronaldo? For sure. Cristiano only scored 8 goals, 5 assists in 53 appearances in his first season. He scored 16 in 60 appearances the next season.
It was not until his 5th season with Manchester United when he scored 46 goals in 59 appearances. Rashford will need patience for him to fully develop, then he can go down in history.
