In what seems to be official news, Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso will retire at the end of this season.
The Spanish midfielder, who is one of the most decorated players of his generation, has been among the best in his position for a number of years winning a host of admirers and fans.
He’s most known for his time with Liverpool, where he formed a brilliant partnership alongside Javier Mascherano and skipper Steven Gerrard.
Among Alonso’s highlights, his goal from midfield against Newcastle.
He will definitely be missed.
As reported by the Telegraph:
“Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has told the club of his intention to retire when his contract runs out at the end of this season.
The 35-year-old former Liverpool favourite has enjoyed a glittering career, spending more than a decade at the top of the game, and his many admirers have already expressed their sadness at his impending departure.
German newspaper Sport Bild reported that although the Bayern hierarchy have accepted their captain’s decision to retire, they have left him free to change his mind if he so wishes.”
