According to reports, Cheick Tiote is eyeing a move to the Chinese Super League.

The Newcastle midfielder reportedly had a deal with Chinese side Shanghai SIPG called off a year ago, but a move seems to have been relaunched with Shanghai Shenhua and the only stickler seems to be regarding wages.

As reported by Chronicle Live:

“Cheick Tiote is still holding out for a move to Shanghai Shenhua.

The Chronicle understands that the delay in the proposed transfer from Newcastle to the Chinese Premier League club has not been caused by a dispute in wages. Tiote was offered a lucrative three-year deal to sign and accepted terms in principle last week.

It has also emerged that Tiote is not in China, and has been based in Spain with the Shanghai club’s top brass set to arrive in Marbella tomorrow.

The team have been training in Majorca while transfer deals are thrashed out behind the scenes.”
