The battling French midfielder was one of the players of the season during the last campaign.
He was one of Leicester’s most important players as they charged towards an unlikely Premier League title.
The little man was so impressive he was nominated for the PFA Player Of The Season award.
However, after such a great campaign, predictably the big teams have come calling for his signature.
Jamie Vardy has already decided to stay put and remain with the Foxes, but will Kante also be as loyal to the Premier league champions?
Highly admired
He has been heavily linked with a host of top teams throughout the summer, but it is Chelsea who have shown the greatest interest.
Antonio Conte is in desperate need of re-energising a Chelsea team who gave up their title on a whim last season.
But, is he the kind of player they need?
It is hard to say what sort of players Chelsea need; they don’t really have a bad squad. Nearly all of their first eleven are fully fledged internationals.
If you’re looking at their midfield then Kante would provide energy and dynamism to their midfield, currently you have to say that they are lacking speed and energy from deep.
Competition
Primarily, Kante would be competing with Nemanja Matic and Jon Obi Mikel for a starting berth, both of whom had very disappointing campaigns last time around.
Theoretically he should be able to form a brilliant partnership with Cesc Fabregas, sitting just behind him and playing similarly to a sweeper when the Spaniard loses possession.
Matic was heavily criticised last season and has been linked with a move to Manchester United which would see him reunited with old boss Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea have formally bid £29 million for the player, which would see Leicester make a substantial profit on the player they bought for £5.6 million only last year.
The combative midfielder has already turned down one contract extension from Leicester, but has recently been offered another, worth £100,000 a week.
Logical?
From the outset it would seem like the next logical step for Kante, moving to a so called ‘bigger club’.
With the arrival of Antonio Conte, Chelsea are one of the favourites for the title and have already strengthened the squad with the signing Michy Batshuayi.
However, his Leicester team are Premier League champions and will be competing in the Champions League next season.
If the Foxes invest some of their winnings wisely, whilst also keeping the squad together, they could once again push on towards an unlikely title triumph.
There is no doubt that Kante has the ability to be able to slot into the Chelsea squad and he would be a welcome addition of talent in West London.
The question now is where does he see his legacy? Gunning title hunters Chelsea, or title defenders Leicester?
