Virgil van Dijk: Why the Dutchman is a fitting target for Chelsea

Chelsea have been very interested in signing Virgil van Dijk. However, they do not want to anger Southampton with an aggressive tactic in the same way Liverpool did, which did not work out.

The Blues are waiting it out as they check in with Van Dijk’s time and time again at St. Mary’s. Conte is also looking into Leonardo Bonucci in case van Dijk does not work out.

Van Dijk may be seen as a better value for their money than Bonucci. They are waiting to see if he’ll leave from Southampton. Van Dijk joined current club Southampton after an impressive spell for the Scottish champions.

Angling for the big move

Van Dijk has been looking to make a move this summer and has been gaining more and more attraction from many Premier League clubs. The majority of the Premier League’s biggest teams will be looking to strengthen their defenses this season.

Manchester City, Manchester United, and Inter Milan are also said to be interested in the Dutchman. He was one of the top defenders in the country last season.

One of the best in England

Van Dijk has become one of the top centre-backs in England over the last 18 months. He was in spectacular form last season. He’s improved and has become a very good defender.

He might become one of the best five or six defenders in the world since he has the capacity. Or perhaps he will stick with stability since Southampton is a good club for him?

Would he fit in well at Stamford Bridge? Chelsea is already ready to consider a swap deal to pry him away from the Saints.

Good relationship

In pursuit of Van Dijk Chelsea could use to their advantage their good relationship with Nathan Ake and Southampton. It is possible Van Dijk will turn down playing for Southampton after turning down Liverpool this summer.

Chelsea can step in if the club decides they do not want to go with Liverpool due to being angered by their approach earlier this summer.

“Southampton has reportedly already begun a search for his replacement, meaning it is almost certain the in-demand star will leave St Mary’s in the upcoming transfer window,” according to TalkSport

The real deal

What happens is that some people think since Van Dijk is playing up here for Celtic; they think he is only playing Scottish football, which is less competitive than the Premier League. But Virgil van Dijk has been doing Celtic football at a European level.

He’s been playing under pressure for Celtic; he’s got something about him. He’s always had the qualities European footballers look for. Van Dijk is fast, can play, he’s tall, he gets good air, and he is similar to top players such as Wanyama.

He’s already at a great club at Southampton and if he left there then “you’d need to consider it to be one of the top four or six clubs,” according to TalkSport.

In the meantime Chelsea also looks for three other signings in areas that are important including Lukaku as striker, Bakayoko as midfielder, and Sandro as left back.
