Antoine Griezmann could be lighting up the Premier League next season. That’s if Pep Guardiola gets his way.

The Manchester City boss is said to be very interested in capturing the French international, and will assume a bidding war with rivals Manchester United for his signature.

According to sources close to the Sunday Mirror, Guardiola would be willing to break the bank and offer an eye-watering £70 million for his services.

Likely?

With Diego Simeone publicly stating his intention to leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, it seems likely that a number of players will follow suit.

Griezmann also manages his own affairs, having parted company with his agent last year: as such, any contact from Manchester would go directly to him, rather than through the dilution of an agent, making it conceivable that Guardiola would be able to coax the star into switching the glamour of Spain for the coldness of Manchester.

Worth it?

The forward is approaching the form of his career; aged 25 he has already netted fifty times for Madrid in La Liga and was the top scorer at this year’s European Championships, aiding France’s path to the final.

£70 million is a substantial fee, but for someone of his quality, it isn’t misplaced.
