Yes, we’re not even a quarter of the way into the 2016-2017 Premier League season but the new campaign has produced a number of shocks.

Though Manchester City’s ascent to the top of the table should be no surprise, a number of key individuals from last year are struggling to replicate that form while this year has seen a few new inspirational players make early cases to be the best in their position providing they sustain that for the remaining 30 matches.

Freebetsmate.com lists their picks for the team of the season. Do you agree?

Goalkeeper: Maarten Stekelenburg (Everton)

Stekelenburg has added solidity to Everton’s back-line and was crucial in the club’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, saving two penalties to cap an excellent start to the season.

Defenders: Daley Blind (Manchester United), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City) and Hector Bellerin (Arsenal)

Blind is developing into one of United’s more reliable players and, despite playing in defence, is even contributing to the attacking part of the game by providing a useful outlet up the flank.

Few full backs in the world are as dynamic as Hector Bellerin, though, while Nicolas Otamendi and Laurent Koscielny are pillars of strength and intelligence in the heart of the rearguard.

Midfielders: Etienne Capoue (Watford) and Adam Lallana (Liverpool)

Etienne Capoue has been in fantastic form for Watford, scoring nine from nine outings in all competitions with the promise of more on the horizon.

At Liverpool, Adam Lallana goes from strength to strength under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp.

Attackers: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal) and Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur)

Assist-machine Kevin de Bruyne, goal king Son Heung-Min and game-changing Gunner Theo Walcott form the three attacking prongs in our 4-2-3-1.

Centre forward: Diego Costa (Chelsea)

Romelu Lukaku would have been a strong inclusion, but Diego Costa has scored more goals and popped up in more games.

Though Chelsea have been erratic this year, Costa has been a constant threat.

He’s almost back to his very best…
