Jose Mourinho is set to make a £50 million bid for Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Daily Mirror.

The news emerges from Old Trafford in light of Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban being upheld.

It means that United’s priority target, Antoine Griezmann, is unlikely to leave – United would have to meet his transfer clause of £87 million for it to happen.

It is understood United will not do so out of respect for the club, and Griezmann’s personal discretion.

The French international has scored 37 goals all season and would represent good business for the Red Devils.

Liverpool and Arsenal have also expressed interest in the forward, so there is likely going to be a battle to sign the striker.

The Verdict

United have the financial muscle to blow away Liverpool and Arsenal and if they want Lacazette they will most likely be able to land him.

Lacazette would be the marquee signing United crave and would form a harmonious partnership with young Marcus Rashford.

The France international has proven his worth in front of goal for Lyon over the past few seasons. He scored over 30 goals in all competitions last season and has maintained his consistency throughout.

United fans will be griping over the latest Griezmann twist, but Lacazette is a quality player in his own right.
